Jonathan's Workshops

    Using “Intelligent lights” Intelligently

    Beginning, Intermediate, Advanced / , , , Tech, , / Tech

Requirements: (2) 15a outlets on separate breakers. A dark room. 45 min setup / 15 min teardown. Lighting equipment will be provided by CU Boulder.

Multi-parameter lighting fixtures, meaning lights that move and change color are everywhere these days. Many theaters have bought their last incandescent stage light already, whether they know it or not. This change presents both opportunities and pitfalls for young designers and technicians. In this workshop we will discuss both, in a fun and kinetic environment. Students will observe the differences between the most common types of equipment and learn tips and tricks for using them. Most importantly, the session explores that with this powerful technology, it is more critical than ever that we stay true to the story. That we have a clear point of view at the outset of our design. And that the goals of reaching our audience, supporting our performers, and crafting compelling worlds of the play remain.
